Portland Pediatric Braces
Braces are used to correct alignment issues for your child's teeth by applying steady pressure, which will shift them into a much straighter and fixed position. Most kids tend to just need braces with brackets, wires and rubber bands. The wire is tightened little by little over each appointment to gradually straighten your child's teeth properly. Rubber bands come in many fun colors your child can pick, as well. In addition to standard braces, there are also lingual braces (which go behind the teeth rather than in front), and clear removable braces as an alternative to wires and rubber bands, called aligners. Aligners, however, are only right for some people. Some children also may need additional appliances, as well- such as headgear. Headgear is typically only worn at night, and provides a stronger force to help move your child's teeth into position. Once treatment has begun, your child will need to visit Rockwood Orthodontics every few weeks for check-ups and adjustments.
